Academic Year 2019

Hsu, Wei-Chi

The four-year university journey comes to an end today. After realizing my potential, I decided to challenge myself by enrolling in the Temple University Dual Degree Program. During my first two years in Taiwan, I was trained entirely in English, which helped me adapt to an all-English learning environment. In my junior and senior years, I continued my studies at Temple University in the United States. Throughout this experience, I not only improved my English proficiency but also deepened my knowledge in business.

Studying abroad taught me much more than academic knowledge—it also helped me gain valuable life skills and problem-solving abilities. Living and learning in the U.S. broadened my global perspective. By interacting with classmates from different countries, I learned to see the world from diverse viewpoints and to think more openly. Conversations and discussions with professors and friends in the U.S. also boosted my confidence in speaking English. It was truly a rewarding experience.

I would like to express my gratitude to my parents, who have always stood by me throughout my academic journey—supporting, caring for, and encouraging me through every challenge. I’m also thankful to the professors and mentors at Chung Yuan Christian University, whose guidance and preparation made my transition abroad much smoother. Although the beginning was not without difficulties, I was never at a loss. I’m deeply grateful to my roommates, who became like family to me and made our dorm feel like home during my time in the U.S. Lastly, I want to thank myself for persevering. Though new challenges await, I believe I now have the courage and experience to face whatever the future holds.

Academic Year 2019

Huang, Wei-Hsuan

The reason I chose the Temple Dual Degree Program was that I wanted the opportunity to see the world and study abroad. Through this program, I only needed to pay two years of U.S. tuition (Note 1) to earn dual bachelor’s degrees from both Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) and Temple University — a very worthwhile choice for me.

During my first two years at CYCU, the English-taught courses provided me with a solid foundation in both language proficiency and study habits, which helped me quickly adapt to Temple’s academic environment when I went to the U.S. in my junior year. During my two and a half years at Temple, I not only gained extensive academic knowledge but also became more independent and self-disciplined in daily life. I ultimately graduated with honors, ranking in the top 9% of the business school (majoring in Statistical Science and Data Analytics).

After graduation, I took a six-month gap period to focus on preparing for graduate school applications. I was later admitted to the Master of Finance program at UC Irvine, where I completed my studies and successfully graduated this August.

(Note 1: Students in this program pay CYCU tuition for the first two years. Starting from the third year, after transferring to Temple University, they only pay Temple’s tuition. Compared with completing all four years in the U.S., this program allows students to significantly reduce tuition and living expenses for studying abroad.)

Academic Year 2020

Chiu, Pin-An

Hello everyone, I’m Pin-An Chiu, a graduate of the CYCU–Temple Dual Degree Program. My connection with Temple University began quite by chance. Back in high school, I participated in a volunteer activity where I met several friends from Pennsylvania, USA. When we talked about college, I first heard the name “Temple University.” Later, while filling out my university preferences in Taiwan, I happened to see that familiar name again. Since I had always dreamed of studying abroad, I decided to include the Temple Dual Degree Program on my list—and that choice marked the start of a very special journey.

The Temple Dual Degree Program is a rare and valuable opportunity that allows students to experience two completely different campus lives. In Taiwan, you grow alongside familiar friends; in the U.S., you immerse yourself in a distinct educational and cultural environment. Compared with an exchange program, this dual degree path offers a more comprehensive and in-depth American education experience.

What influenced me the most during my studies was self-initiative. At Temple, countless opportunities and resources are available, but if you don’t take the initiative to explore and express your ideas, you might miss out on them. Every resource has to be earned through your own effort—and that, to me, was the most important lesson I learned in college.

After graduation, I returned to Taiwan and currently work as a Front-End Engineer at STARLUX Airlines. The technical skills I acquired from Temple University’s Management Information Systems program laid a solid foundation for my career, but that was just the beginning. What truly helped me advance were my involvement in extracurricular activities, teamwork experiences, and continuous self-learning. These experiences made me stand out during interviews and opened up many new possibilities in my professional journey.

Lastly, I’d like to encourage all current students: don’t be afraid to try new things. You never know when a particular activity or learning experience might become your greatest advantage in the future.
